Digital Political Practices: Speaking Out on Gender-Based Violence Narratives in Broken Strings
Keywords:
Affective Publics, Gender-Based Violence, Social Media, Speaking OutAbstract
This study aims to analyze how public responses to the narratives presented in the book Broken Strings shape digital political practices and generate emotional responses within digital spaces that later develop into speaking out practices related to gender-based violence. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study method through documentation analysis of screenshots of public comments on social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and X. The data were analyzed using the perspective of affective publics, which emphasizes the role of emotions in shaping public connectedness within digital communication. The findings show that comment sections function not only as spaces for sharing personal experiences, but also as arenas for emotional resonance, digital solidarity, and support for survivors of gender-based violence. The study further reveals that the circulation of emotions such as empathy, trauma, and support within digital interactions enables personal experiences to develop into collective narratives that strengthen public awareness of gender issues.
