From Voters to Monitors: Strengthening Electoral Integrity through Student Constitutional Education

Abstract

This study examines a community-based educational intervention aimed at strengthening electoral integrity through constitutional literacy among university students in Kendari, Indonesia. Addressing widespread electoral fraud and low legal awareness, the program employed lecture-based socialization, interactive discussions, and pre- and post-test evaluations. The findings reveal a 45% increase in students’ understanding of constitutional principles, particularly the role of parliamentary inquiry as a mechanism of democratic oversight. Participants demonstrated a shift from passive electoral participation to active engagement, including the emergence of student-led monitoring initiatives. The study highlights the effectiveness of integrating normative constitutional law with empirical political realities to foster critical thinking and civic responsibility. It argues that student-centered constitutional education can serve as a strategic approach to enhancing electoral integrity and democratic resilience. The paper recommends the development of sustainable and participatory political education programs to ensure long-term impact.

Abstrak
Penelitian ini mengkaji intervensi pendidikan berbasis pengabdian masyarakat yang bertujuan memperkuat integritas pemilu melalui peningkatan literasi konstitusional di kalangan mahasiswa di Kota Kendari. Menanggapi maraknya kecurangan pemilu dan rendahnya kesadaran hukum, program ini menggunakan metode ceramah, diskusi interaktif, serta evaluasi melalui pre-test dan post-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman sebesar 45%, khususnya terkait prinsip konstitusi dan peran hak angket sebagai mekanisme pengawasan demokrasi. Mahasiswa mengalami pergeseran dari partisipasi pasif menjadi keterlibatan aktif, termasuk munculnya inisiatif pemantauan berbasis kampus. Studi ini menegaskan bahwa integrasi aspek hukum normatif dengan realitas politik empiris efektif dalam membangun pemikiran kritis dan tanggung jawab kewargaan. Pendidikan konstitusional berbasis mahasiswa menjadi strategi penting dalam memperkuat integritas pemilu dan ketahanan demokrasi. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan program pendidikan politik yang berkelanjutan dan partisipatif.
